Counsellor in Brighton

I’m Thad Hickman, a BACP and UKCP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist, working with adults in central Brighton.

I offer face-to-face counselling from private consulting rooms in the heart of Brighton alongside online therapy options for those who prefer to work remotely.

Many people come to therapy while outwardly functioning well, yet privately struggling with aspects of work, relationships, or a sense of direction that feels unresolved. My work is grounded in an integrative and relational approach, supporting people to make sense of long-standing emotional difficulties and the meanings beneath present-day struggles.

Brighton Counselling & Psychotherapy: How Can I Help?

I work with adults from across Brighton & Hove and the surrounding areas. People I see often bring concerns such as:

  • anxiety, stress or feeling overwhelmed

  • depression or low mood

  • relationship difficulties or recurring relational patterns

  • loss, bereavement or significant life change

  • men's issues — identity, relationships, emotional life

  • feeling stuck, disconnected or uncertain about direction

  • wanting to understand yourself more deeply

You do not need to arrive with a clear problem or diagnosis. Many people begin therapy because they want to understand themselves better, or because something in their life feels narrowed or constrained in ways that are hard to explain.

See if therapy is right for you with a free 30-minute consultation. Contact me to book.

How I Work

My approach to psychotherapy is relational and exploratory, drawing particularly on psychodynamic and relational ideas. I aim to offer a reflective space where you can think more deeply about your inner life alongside the demands of everyday living.

Therapy provides a confidential setting to explore experiences that may feel repetitive, unsettling, or difficult to talk about elsewhere. We pay attention to how you experience yourself, how you relate to others, and how earlier experiences may continue to shape present patterns. The work unfolds collaboratively and at a pace that allows things to be thought about carefully rather than hurried towards solutions.

Online therapy Sessions

In addition to face-to-face work in Brighton & Hove, I offer online psychotherapy sessions for people who prefer to work remotely or who are unable to attend sessions in person. Some clients choose a combination of in-person and online sessions depending on circumstances.
